Murder Burger Or Bust
punk rock unplugged

Sunday night was our second Sydney gig, but this one was a serious change from the previous five nights. Horace Pinker was going to play their first ever, fully unplugged set. That’s right, there would be nowhere to hide at the Town Hall Hotel in Newtown that night.

After watching a couple of guys play some acoustic folk/reggae songs like it was their day job, HP took up the stage armed with an acoustic guitar, an acoustic bass, and a stripped down drum kit consisting of kick, high-hat and snare. The only comforts we could take hold of were the fact that we have been playing most of these songs for years, but also that Not Ok has never done an acoustic set like this before. Worst case scenario, we could all go down in flames together.

Disaster averted. We got off to a rough start, but found a groove about halfway through. The highlights of our set were “Letter Never Sent” and “Refined”, but the new song (Karl’s song) also translated well. Oh, I almost forgot about the song I thought came across the best, “Bad Day Gets Worse” off of Burn Tempe. Considering I only learned it in the hotel room a couple hours earlier, I think it will find it’s way into the regular set for the rest of the tour.
